Learn how to create pom poms in different sizes and patterns including speckled, striped, bullseye and polka dot during this three hour workshop at Nine Pin Cider in Albany.

You will learn two different methods of pom pom making along with how to sculpt your pom poms into a variety of shapes and forms!

You can make as many pom poms as your heart desires and then string them together into a festive garland for the winter season. Color options will inlcude the whole rainbow to choose from and all materials are included!

Explore sculpting with wool during this two day workshop. Using the ancient technique of wet felting, you will learn how to sculpt wool into a multitude of natural forms such as branches and coral, barnacles, undulating layers and more!

Day one will be an introduction to wet felting, learning the history and the process while focusing on learning multiple techniques and creating a collection of samples. 

Day two will see you using your samples and newfound skills to design and create your own felt sculpture, utilizing techniques learned in day one and even experimenting with idea of your own!

Learn how to sculpt with wool through needle felting. Using a variety of wool roving and felting needles, you will learn how to form wool into small sculpted pumpkins. Students will finish the workshop with a few small felt pumpkins.

"Narrative Needle Felting" is a free workshop open to the public as a part of the show "Connective Fibers" , a new body of work from local fiber artist Mallory Zondag. The workshop will be an introduction to a central idea and a technique used in creating the large scale fiber sculptures on display at Arthurs Market, using fiber sculpture to tell stories.

You will learn how to needle felt basic 3D forms and how to think about your own personal narratives in a visual way. Using symbols both abstract and realistic, you will be guided through the process of communicating your own ideas and experiences through small scale fiber sculpture. Needle felting can be both meditative and therapeutic, an artform that both creates and allows time to process personal experiences

"Connective Fibers" is a collection of large scale fiber sculptures that were born out of the physical processing of the artist's personal emotional histories that began during the pandemic and are still continuously being resolved. The sculptures are primarily created through wet felting, a full body textile technique that involves both the meticulous layout of wool fibers and subsequently slamming the fibers against hard surfaces to develop the fabrics structure and the sculptures form. It is a technique that requires presence and care as well as physical release and strength, these are tools needed for both felting and the healing of emotional wounds. The creation of these sculptures was an act of both. Fiber art throughout history, has always been about more then function, it is about storytelling. How we move through the world rests fundamentally on the stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves, our actions and our relationships. Storytelling is healing, storytelling though physical art making can be transformative. Mallory's work weaves together visual narratives of the visceral body and the natural world, using organic forms as mirrors of personal experiences to both process and share her stories.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.

You will learn all about the wet felting process, how to work with wool roving, hot water and soap to felt your own fabric and how to sculpt a hollow three dimensional object such as a vase, bowl or basket from wool. The technique you learn can be applied to the making of hats, slippers, jackets and more! All materials included. Students will leave with their finished projects.

Take some time to explore different techniques of working with wool to create sculptural forms with contemporary fiber artist, Mallory Zondag. In this fiber "deep dive" workshop, you will create your own decorative gourd made entirely of wool using both wet felting and needle felting techniques. Using the ancient art of wet felting, a technique where wool is combined with hot water, olive oil soap and is then agitated, you will create a three dimensional woolly gourd. This technique, once learned, can be applied to the creation of hats, slippers and more.

You will also learn how to needle felt to create further detail on your gourd like stems, vines and intricate patterns of fall color to bring your gourd to life!

Some of the materials in this workshop will be sourced right from our local Charlton sheep and processed in Main Street Studio. We can’t wait to see what everyone will create!

Much of the wool used in this workshop will be from local Charlton sheep farms and hand-dyed using everyday ingredients like onions, strawberries, avocados and black walnuts!
