Explore the hands-on art of tapestry weaving with an endless array of fibers – and some unexpected others – material choices! Learn how to set up a frame loom and a variety of traditional techniques for creating a unique tapestry weaving. Students will explore the creation of both pattern and imagery through varied plain weave, building up three dimensional texture through the use of wool roving, up-cycled fabrics, and found materials. Students will also delve into a variety of mixed media techniques to bring their tapestry weaving to another level, such as using yarn wrapped wire and beads to break your textile art into the realm of three dimensional sculpture. Learn how to properly remove a weaving from the loom, finishing techniques for loose ends, and different ways to frame and display your finished textile creation. All levels welcome.
*August 5th is the arrival day for this session. Workshop instruction starts on August 6th and ends August 9th.
The looms used in class will be available to purchase directly from the instructor at $85 each.
